FAQs

What is MyZakat?

MyZakat is an app that uses AI to help you work out your zakat easily. Calculating zakat can be tricky if you have lots of different savings, belongings, or debts. MyZakat asks you simple, step-by-step questions to figure out what you own and what you owe. It shows you a clear total of your assets, tells you what you need to include, and uses AI to answer any questions you have as you go.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Zakat purifies your wealth” (Sunan Ibn Majah). Paying the right amount of zakat is not only a key part of your faith but also a way to cleanse your wealth and gain blessings.

How does your AI work?

Our AI learns from the questions users ask, improving over time to give better answers.

We combine this with guidance from Zakat experts who regularly review and update the AI’s responses. This ensures the advice stays accurate, trustworthy, and Shariah compliant.

In short: it’s a mix of smart technology and human expertise, designed to make your zakat calculations simple and reliable.

How do I pay zakat and is it secure?

After calculating your zakat, you’ll see a list of pre-vetted charities that meet zakat eligibility rules. You can pick one or split your payment between multiple charities.

Payments are processed through Stripe, a trusted payment gateway, using bank-grade encryption to protect your details.

There is a payment processing fee (e.g., 2.4% + £0.20  for UK, for European cards or 3.9% + £0.20, for non-European cards 4.4% + £0.20). The money is sent directly to the charity and not to us.

Charities are carefully checked to ensure they qualify for zakat payment and that they also have zakat eligible programmes.

Your payment is safe, private, and compliant with financial security standards. Pay your zakat confidently, knowing it’s secure and going where it’s needed most.

Who should use MyZakat?

Anyone who needs to calculate and pay zakat! Whether you’re new to zakat or have complex finances, MyZakat guides you step-by-step, making it easy for everyone.

What types of assets does MyZakat cover?

We cover savings, gold, investments, property, debts owed to you, and business assets. If you’re unsure about an item, just ask the AI—it’ll help!

Is my financial information safe?

Yes! We don’t store sensitive details like bank balances. Any data you share is encrypted and kept private, in line with UK data protection laws.

How does MyZakat calculate the nisab?

We use the current value of silver (as per Islamic rules) to determine the nisab (zakat threshold). The AI updates this automatically, so you don’t have to track it yourself.

Can I use MyZakat if I have debts?

Absolutely. MyZakat subtracts what you owe (like loans or bills) from your total assets to calculate your zakat accurately.

What if I make a mistake in my calculation?

No worries! You can edit your details anytime before paying. The AI will recalculate your zakat instantly.

When should I calculate my zakat?

Zakat is due yearly, but you can use MyZakat anytime. Set a reminder in the app to stay on track with your Islamic calendar.
